Show Notes

Welcome to our Female Friday Feature! This is where I share real and raw conversations I had with fellow female professionals. We’re talking about how they got their start in their business journeys, their challenges that all brings a few laughs and even some tears along the way.

In this episode I’m talking with Allison Tenney. She is a formerly competitive elite athlete, Allison played Division I soccer at George Mason University and later played professionally with the Washington Freedom and the Seattle Sounders. She coached college athletes for over 13 years, first at Cornell University and most recently at Seattle University where she was the assistant soccer coach and high-performance manager for the women's soccer team.

She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CSCS) and holds several other fitness credentials including: USA Weightlifting, FMS, SFG, and RKC kettlebell certifications.

Allison lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband and two daughters, and she enjoys coffee, sunshine, kettlebells, and living her best life!

In this episode we discuss:

  • The conversation of privilege, power and how we play a part in that as well as where we become part of the problem and how to know when our voice is needed
  • How to understand that it takes time and effort to get to a strong enough place to get the things you want
  • Being able to listen to our bodies communicating to us and how to use that in our relationships with others and with our own self worth
  • Why we have to identify our own organizing frameworks, including the different societies we grew up in in order to heal in both individual and collective realms
  • Using compassion instead of guilt to ourselves and to others
  • Where do we go from here? How does this conversation start in the health and wellness industry?
  •  As people of privilege how does one understand the other side without stepping in their shoes
